SCAPE’s work on Midtown Center Plaza in Washington, DC won a Merit Award in ASLA-NY’s 2020 Design Awards.
Inspired by the radiating geometry of the original L’Enfant plan for DC, Midtown Center Plaza introduces a 15,000 square foot forested plaza and cross-block connection into the dense environment of central city. Sculptural forms, angular planting beds, and custom black locust benches developed with Tri-Lox are shaped by the diagonals; a sunken fountain creates a cooling and immersive entrance along L Street. The design was developed for Carr Properties in collaboration with SHoP Architects and WDG Architecture.
