Today, the staff of the Office of Cheryl Barton (O|CB)—a San Francisco-based landscape architecture firm—are joining SCAPE.
“As two women-owned firms with a history of service and excellence in design for public spaces and ecosystems, we’re proud to join forces to better serve our West Coast clients and collaborators,” said SCAPE Founding Principal Kate Orff, FASLA. “We look forward to welcoming O|CB staff into SCAPE, and building on our shared expertise over the coming years.” SCAPE will also open an office in Summer 2022 located in San Francisco’s Embarcadero neighborhood.
With this announcement, the Founding Principal of O|CB, Cheryl Barton, FASLA, FAAR, LEED AP, resident Registered Landscape Architect (CA#: 3339), transitions to the next phase of her multifaceted career. She will support the SCAPE team in design, leadership, and business development. Concurrently, Cheryl will be working independently on the archives of her 40-year practice, in addition to writing and climate activism. A return to the American Academy in Rome is also on the horizon. With this transition, O|CB will close in 2022.
O|CB Principal Todd Mead, RLA, LEED AP, joins SCAPE with over 35 years of office and project leadership. He brings deep design and documentation experience, blending critical thinking with problem-solving in a collaborative approach to design development and delivery. Additional O|CB staff joining SCAPE include Kal O’Leary; Urmila Venkat; John Rabago, RLA, ISA Certified Arborist; and Meghann Dubie.
“My primary aspiration at this juncture of my career is to engage in and facilitate the continued practice of design science, promoting work in the service of wide-ranging nature-based solutions for the planet and advocacy for resilience and adaptation,” said Cheryl Barton. “It’s an ethos we share with SCAPE and we are delighted to join them as they put down roots in Northern California.”
Join us in welcoming the O|CB team to SCAPE as a step toward a more dedicated regional presence in California and across the Western states.
