Mobile’s history is inextricably tied to its waterfront. Established as a trade hub along the shores of Mobile Bay in the 1700s, the Port of Mobile and related industries have grown into a central economic driver for the entire region. But today, many residents are disconnected from the water’s edge—a rich mosaic of tidal flats, marshes, forested wetlands, and shallow lagoons essential to coastal life.
At Brookley by the Bay, the City of Mobile is planning a new waterfront park to reconnect Mobile to the Bay over 194 acres adjacent to the Mobile Aeroplex, helping to expand waterfront access for all Mobilians in collaboration with local residents. SCAPE is excited to collaborate with the City of Mobile and a team comprised of Volkert, Thompson, Moffatt & Nichol, Gant Group, Freddie Stokes, Esq., and the Savannah College of Art & Design to develop a new vision for the property grounded in resilience, equity, and accessibility.
Stay tuned for more updates in the months to come.
